چکیده

This paper introduces the notion of nonlinear MMSE multiuser detection and shows that MMSE signal estimates followed by single user detectors yield MAP (or minimum probability of error) decisions for CDMA signals. Iterative solutions are proposed for nonlinear MMSE estimation. If interferers’ codes are assumed to be known by the signal estimators for each user, the MMSE solution is shown to be a fixed point which is reached in one iteration, but is computationally intractable. If interferers’ codes are not assumed to be known, the resulting iterative multiuser detector (called random-code NMIC) is shown to be of the same order of complexity as a conventional multistage interference canceler. Furthermore, the nonlinear MMSE solution is shown to be a fixed point of the random-code NMIC. Particular solutions are presented for the cases of BPSK and M-ary orthogonal spread spectrum systems. Audio demonstrations of random-code NMIC performance can be found at http://www.nd.edu/ aspect/.

Covariance Analysis of a vector tracking GPS receiver based on MMSE multiuser Detection

In high dynamic conditions, using vector tracking loops instead of scalar tracking loops in GPS receivers is proved as an efficient method to compensate the performance. The Minimum Mean Squared Error detector as a multiuser detector is applied in the vector tracking loop for more reliability and efficiency. The Kalman filter does the two tasks of tracking and extracting the navigation data aft...

CDMA multiuser detection: a nonlinear programming approach

The optimum receiver to detect the bits of multiple CDMA users has exponential complexity in the number of active users in the system. Consequently, many suboptimum receivers have been developed to achieve good performance with less complexity. In this paper, we take the approach of approximating the solution of the optimum multiuser detection problem (OMUD) using nonlinear programming relaxati...

Nonlinear MMSE Multiuser Detection Based on Multivariate Gaussian Approximation

In this paper, a class of nonlinear MMSE multiuser detectors are derived based on a multivariate Gaussian approximation of the multiple access interference. This approach leads to expressions identical to those describing the probabilistic data association (PDA) detector, thus providing an alternative analytical justification for this structure. A simplification to the PDA detector based on app...

A New Class of Efficient Block-Iterative Interference Cancellation Techniques for Digital Communication Receivers

A new and efficient class of nonlinear receivers is introduced for digital communication systems. These “iterated-decision” receivers use optimized multipass algorithms to successively cancel interference from a block of received data and generate symbol decisions whose reliability increases monotonically with each iteration. Two variants of such receivers are discussed: the iterated-decision e...
